We make one thing
for the cars you've kept

since you were nine.

DCM·Works is a one-person studio making motorised display pads for 1:64 die-cast cars. One founder, one product line, and a position on the kind of objects adults should be allowed to keep on their desks.

01 / IN THE GARAGE, 2024

It started with one car
and a 3D printer.

I bought a 7-Eleven liveried Hot Wheels at a convenience store in 2019. It sat on a shelf for four years.

One weekend in March 2024 I designed a small, motorised parking-lot diorama to give it somewhere to live. Printed it on an FDM in the garage, soldered the motor myself, put it on my desk. Two friends asked for one. Then four of theirs. Then strangers.

Twenty months later, DCM·Works is still a one-person studio working out of the same garage, shipping one product properly: the DriftPad. Same idea, better materials, the same car still on the prototype unit by the door.

02 / FROM HERE TO HERE

Twenty months. Five milestones.

MAR 2024

Prototype #001

First diorama. 3D-printed. One motor. One car. One garage bench.

JUN 2024

First small run

30 pads, hand-finished. Sold out in 11 days via DMs.

NOV 2024

Built out the garage

Three benches, proper lighting, the CNC arrived.

APR 2025

DriftPad v2

Brushless motor, integrated lighting, the version still shipped.

MAY 2026

Series 01

Three editions. Proper packaging. The site you're reading.

03 / WHAT WE STAND FOR

Four positions. Not negotiable.

A

One product, done properly.

I could ship a stand, a tray, a case, a bigger pad, a smaller one. I won't. One object, refined every year, is the entire road map. The catalogue is the point.

B

Quiet is a feature.

If you can hear the motor on a Zoom call, I shipped a bad unit. Mechanical silence is harder than a quieter motor — it's bearings, mounts, harmonics, and a week of QA per batch. I pay for it.

C

Identity, not specification.

I don't talk about RPM or torque on the homepage. The DriftPad sells because of a feeling — the car you kept since you were nine, finally with somewhere to live. That feeling drives every decision after.

D

Make it last twelve years.

Twelve-month warranty is the floor, not the ceiling. Replaceable motors, replaceable mounts, replaceable lighting. I send a service kit; I don't send a new product.

04 / INSIDE THE GARAGE

THREE BENCHES, ONE CNC, TWO FDM PRINTERS, AND THE ESPRESSO MACHINE THAT BUILT THE COMPANY. DOOR OPEN MOST MORNINGS.

Every unit runs for 4 hours on a foam-isolated bench before it's boxed. I listen.

Recycled molded pulp, no plastic. The car still goes on top for the photo.

05 / WHO MAKES THEM

One person.Every pad.

DCM·Works is a one-person studio. The founder designs, prototypes, assembles, QAs, packs and answers your email. The benches are in the garage; the email comes back inside a day.

That's deliberate. As long as one pair of hands can finish every unit, every unit gets finished the same way.

07 / A NOTE

"I sell one thing on purpose. The catalogue is the answer to a question — what is the most respectful piece of furniture you can build for a piece of plastic you bought when you were nine? — and the answer is one object, made well, and nothing else next to it."
